Unearthed diamond in Stavanger

17 year old Viking FK Icelandic wonderkid Birkir Bjarnason who has already played for the Iceland u-21's has grabbed the headlines at the start of the Norwegian Tippeligaen season. It has been known for quite some time that Bjarnason was a exceptional talent. Viking FK signed Bjarnason from Figgio, a lower division side in Norway where he made his debut at the age of 15 and despite the player's rapid rise he's not one to take it easy.

Bjarnason was named in the starting line-up against Ham-Kam in a 0-0 draw last weekend having started most of the games for Viking FK in the pre-season and he wants more, speaking to Dagbladet in Norway the youngster said:
"I hope to get many games this season and cement my place in the team. After Viking FK I want to go abroad and prove myself."

Viking FK manager Tony Prahl thinks highly of Bjarnason:
"Its unbelievable that he's just 17 years old. He's the typical box-to-box player."

And who is Bjarnason's favourite player?
"Kaka, he's got everyting."

Many clubs across europe have been alerted by the talented youngster and clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Celtic have all sent scouts to watch him in action and are certain to follow his every move during the Norwegian season this summer.
